Terms of use

These terms cover your use of Capture The Map, operated by MapMap AI Ltd. By creating an account or recording an activity, you agree to them. Last updated 7 August 2026.

Season zero

We are in season zero. The game, its features and its rules can change as we build it. We will try to give notice of anything that affects territory or gear you have earned, but we cannot promise every change comes with warning.

Your account

You need to be 13 or older to use Capture The Map. Keep your login details to yourself, and one account per person.

Handles are unique and free, and they are not property: they cannot be bought, sold, traded or transferred, and we may reclaim one that impersonates a person, brand or institution, or that is being held without ever being played. Specifically, a handle on an account that has never claimed any ground may be released back to other players after 90 days of inactivity. We will always email you first and give you a fortnight to keep it by getting out for a walk, run or ride.

Play fair

The game only works if claims are real. Do not spoof your GPS, drive a route and claim it as a run, or use any tool or script to automate activities. Every activity goes through a plausibility check, and anything that fails it claims nothing. Accounts that keep cheating can have their territory or power-ups removed, or be suspended, without compensation.

Sharing your content

Anything you choose to share, a public profile, a route, a claimed map, you still own. By sharing it, you give us a licence to store, display and distribute it as part of the game, for example on your public profile page or a leaderboard. We will not use it to advertise anything else without asking.

Loot and odds

All loot is earned by playing, never bought. There is no way to spend real money on loot, boosts or gear inside Capture The Map, and nothing here is gambling: the odds for every prize drop are published at /odds, generated from the same numbers the server rolls against.

No guarantees

Capture The Map is provided as-is, especially during season zero. We do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free, or that any particular piece of territory or gear is preserved forever, fade and season resets are part of the design.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, MapMap AI Ltd is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of Capture The Map.

You are responsible for your own safety while running or riding: obey traffic laws, stay aware of your surroundings, and do not let chasing a street distract you from the road.

Ending your account

You can stop playing and delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
