Season zero

Run the streets.Own the map.

Every street you walk, run or ride becomes your territory, matched to the real road network. Close a loop and take everything inside it.

Free. Try it without an account. Works worldwide.

Season zero

Claim your handle before someone else does.

Handles are unique and they are going fast. Yours becomes your public territory page, the one you send people when they ask what all this is.

Claim your handle

The handle is free. The Founder High Score is not: it lands on your first claimed street, it never drops from a prize drop, and it cannot be traded. Only the people who were here early will ever hold one.

The loop

How does Capture The Map work?

You record a walk, run or ride, and every street you covered becomes yours on a shared world map. Four steps, and the same loop repeats forever.

1

Run

Walk, run or ride anywhere on Earth. Any watch or app that exports GPX counts.

2

Match

Your trace is snapped to the real street network, street by street.

3

Claim

Matched streets become your hexes. Close a loop and the ground inside turns your colour too.

4

Defend

Rivals can run your streets back. Hold them by covering them again.

The take-back

Orange and blue territory contesting the same streets over Shoreditch

No territory is ever safe.

A street you claimed today can belong to someone else tomorrow. Any rival who runs it back takes it from you. Close a loop and you do not just claim the edges, you take everything enclosed inside it too.

A runner plotting a claim route with the Ghost Route

Meet the Ghost Route

It plots your line, then talks you round it.

Tell the Ghost Route how long you have. It works out the route that claims the most new streets in that time, on the real street network, not a circle drawn on a map.

Then follow it turn by turn in the app: the next instruction sits at the top of the screen counting down, and it is spoken aloud so you can keep your eyes up. Prefer your own watch? Export the plan as a GPX file instead.

Earn your power-ups

Claim ground. Open prize drops. Build a loadout.

Real runs and rides earn prize drops. Inside: boots that sharpen your scoring, banners that hold your ground longer, shields that absorb a takeover while you sleep.

Nothing is for sale. Every power-up is earned on the street, every drop is rolled server-side, and the odds are published in full.

Side Quests

Fix the map while you run past it.

Maps are wrong in small ways everywhere: a low bridge with no recorded height, a footpath that closed years ago, a cafe that is now a barber. Run past one and the game asks you a single question you can answer at the kerbside in seconds.

Your answers go to MapMap, the mapping platform underneath this game, and make the map better for everyone who uses it: drivers, cyclists, delivery firms, other runners.

How Side Quests work

Low bridge

Does this bridge carry a height limit sign? What does it say?

Read the plate on the bridge or on the post beside it. Feet and inches is fine, metres is fine, both is better.

Yes, there is a sign
No sign at all
Cannot tell

Every answer pays the same 12 credits, including cannot tell. You are paid for going and looking, never for what you found. That is the only way the data stays honest.

Season zero

The map is empty. It will not stay that way.

Capture The Map is new. Every street on Earth is unclaimed, first come, first held. Whoever runs a road first sets the mark everyone else has to beat.

Your first street is still unclaimed.

Upload a walk, run or ride and put your colour on the map today.
